Spanish turrón for Christmas, and sweets all year
Turrón is the sweet Spain puts on the table at Christmas: almonds and honey, cooked into a nougat and cut into bars. Our Spanish turrón comes from Alemany, and we add Spanish chocolate for the colder months.
Jijona vs. Alicante, in short. Jijona turrón is soft, because the nougat is blended with finely ground almonds. Alicante turrón is hard and crunchy, with chopped almonds, egg white and a thin wafer. Turrón de Jijona and Turrón de Alicante are each a PGI (Protected Geographical Indication, IGP in Spanish) recognized by the EU in 1996, and under those rules at least 10% of the turrón must be pure local honey (European Commission).

FAQ
What is the difference between Jijona and Alicante turrón?
Jijona is soft and smooth, made with finely ground almonds. Alicante is hard and crunchy, with pieces of toasted almond and a wafer. Both are almond and honey nougat.
When do Spaniards eat turrón?
Mostly at Christmas, through Three Kings Day on January 6, after the holiday meal with coffee.
How do I serve and store turrón?
Cut it into thin slices with a sharp knife and serve it at room temperature. Keep it in a cool, dry place, away from heat and sunlight; once opened, wrap it well or keep it in an airtight container.
Does the turrón contain allergens?
Yes. All three Alemany turrones contain almonds. The Jijona and Imperial contain egg and may contain milk and soy; the chocolate turrón contains milk and soy and may contain egg. See each product's Allergens & Nutrition tab.
