What is Proposition 65?
The Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, known as Proposition 65 or “Prop 65,” requires businesses to warn Californians about significant exposures to chemicals that the State of California lists as causing cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. The list includes more than 900 chemicals, some of which occur naturally in foods or form during growing, cooking or processing, or can come from packaging and materials.
How we handle warnings
Spain at Home (UPPENDI CORPORATION, doing business as Spain at Home) ships to customers in the United States including California. If a product we sell requires a Proposition 65 warning, the warning will appear on that product’s page and/or before you complete your purchase, using the words required by California law.
A warning looks like this:
WARNING: This product can expose you to chemicals including [chemical name], which is known to the State of California to cause [cancer / birth defects or other reproductive harm]. For more information go to www.P65Warnings.ca.gov.
Short-form version:
WARNING: Cancer and Reproductive Harm – www.P65Warnings.ca.gov.
This page is general information. It is not a warning for any specific product. Product-specific warnings, where required, are shown on the product page and at checkout. If you do not see a warning on a product, that does not mean we have determined it contains no listed chemical, only that we have not identified one that requires a warning.
What we do
- We ask our suppliers about the products they provide and about Proposition 65 compliance.
- Where we or our suppliers determine that a warning is required, we show it.
