Quick answer: Give them something they would never buy for themselves and will share for weeks: a whole leg of Spanish jamón ibérico, on its stand, with a long knife. Our pick is a Cinco Jotas 100% Ibérico de bellota ham, from $1,395 with free shipping in the lower 48 states. Until November 30, each whole Cinco Jotas leg comes with a free Manchego DOP wheel, while our 10 promotional wheels last.
The person who has everything already owns the watch, the gadgets and the good bottle. What they rarely have is a whole leg of Ibérico ham on the kitchen counter, because almost nobody in the United States buys one for themselves. In Spain it is the gift that says you went all out, and it is how a Spanish family celebrates: the ham sits on its stand from Christmas Eve to Three Kings’ Day, and everyone carves a few slices when friends drop by.
Here is why it works, which ham to choose, what it costs and how to send it so it arrives right.
Why is a whole ham the gift for someone who has everything?
- They will not have one. A whole jamón ibérico is a rare sight in an American home, and that is the point of a gift for someone who has everything.
- It lasts. Once started, a whole leg kept cool and covered with baking paper and a clean cloth is at its best for 3 to 6 weeks. It is not opened and forgotten: it is carved, slice by slice, for weeks.
- It gets shared. A ham on its stand turns any dinner into a gathering. People remember who sent it.
- It is the real thing. A Cinco Jotas leg is 100% Ibérico de bellota, the black-seal category of Spanish law, from pigs that finish their lives eating acorns in the dehesa. It is cured for three years or more in Jabugo.
- It becomes a hobby. Learning to carve thin, even slices takes a few sessions. Our carving guide walks them through it.
Which ham should you give?
| Gift | What they get | Price | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cinco Jotas ham, 12.5–13 lb | Whole 100% Ibérico de bellota leg, cured 3+ years in Jabugo | $1,395 | A couple or a small household |
| Cinco Jotas ham, 14–15.5 lb | The same ham in the size we recommend for most homes | $1,449 | A family that cooks and entertains |
| Cinco Jotas ham, 16–17 lb | Our largest Cinco Jotas leg | $1,695 | Big families and long holidays |
| Cinco Jotas Grand Ham Box | 5J ham 14–15.5 lb, folding stand, Arcos professional knife, 5J lomo, Picual olive oil gift case, Manchego and olives | $1,699 | Someone who has never carved a ham |
| Cinco Jotas paleta, 9–11 lb | The front leg of the same acorn-fed pigs: smaller, sweeter and more intense | $749 | A smaller budget or a smaller table |
Prices on October 16, 2026. Whole hams and paletas ship free to the 48 contiguous states. Bone and rind are about half the weight of a leg, and some outer fat is trimmed too, so 40 to 50 percent is meat to carve: at about 2 oz per guest, a leg of around 15 lb gives some 50 to 60 tapa servings.
A ham bought on its own comes without a stand or a knife. Add the Jamonprive folding ham stand ($79.99) and the Arcos professional ham knife ($80), or choose the Grand Box, which includes both and is ready to carve the day it arrives.
Why Cinco Jotas?
Cinco Jotas is the reference point for jamón ibérico de bellota. Its cellars are in Jabugo, in the Sierra de Huelva, and the label reads Jabugo 1879. You will see it written 5J or 5 Jotas: jota is the Spanish name of the letter J, so it is the same name read aloud. Every leg comes from a 100% Ibérico pig that spends its last months in the dehesa, the open oak woodland of southwest Spain, eating acorns and grass during the montanera.
That makes it a black-seal ham, the top category under Spain’s quality standard for Ibérico ham, and the only one that may legally be called pata negra. If you want to understand the seals before you buy, our guide to Ibérico vs Serrano vs bellota explains them in five minutes.
What they will taste: deep red meat with fine white veins of fat, sweet and nutty aromas and a long finish. The fat is rich in oleic acid, so it softens at room temperature and melts on the tongue.
Free Manchego wheel with every whole Cinco Jotas leg (until November 30)
Order any of the three whole Cinco Jotas legs (12.5–13, 14–15.5 or 16–17 lb) by November 30, 2026, and we add a whole Manchego DOP cheese, aged at least 6 months and about 3.5 lb, the same wheel we sell for $99. It goes into your cart automatically at $0, with no code, and travels in the same box as the ham, in an insulated bag with cold packs.
- Limited: we set aside 10 wheels. The Cinco Jotas pages show how many are left, and the offer ends when they run out, even before November 30.
- Which hams: the three whole legs bought on their own. It does not apply to the paleta or to the gift boxes; the Grand Box already includes Manchego.
- Same price: the ham costs the same with or without the cheese. Full conditions in our Promotions Terms.
Christmas gift boxes with a whole ham
For Christmas, three boxes put the ham, the stand and the knife together with turrón, cheese and the things Spaniards set around a jamón:
- Serrano Ham Christmas Box ($429): a whole Cortijo de Canata Serrano aged 15 months, wooden stand, knife, Manchego, chorizo, olives and two turrones.
- Beher Ibérico Ham Christmas Box ($849): a whole Beher 100% Ibérico ham from Guijuelo, folding stand, knife, Manchego, chorizo, Picual olive oil, olives and three turrones.
- Cinco Jotas Ham Christmas Box ($1,789): a whole Cinco Jotas ham, folding stand, Arcos professional knife, 5J lomo, two cheeses, Picual olive oil in its gift case, olives and three turrones.

All three ship free in the contiguous US, in one box. Order by December 14 for delivery before Christmas.
Food gifts for foodies, and for men who have everything
A whole ham is one of the few food gifts that a serious cook does not already have. For the foodie, it is an ingredient and a project: the best slices on their own, the trimmings in croquetas, the bone in a broth (our guide on what to do with the ham bone has the Spanish recipes). For the man who has everything, or the woman, it is a ritual for the weekend: the stand, the long knife, the first thin slice.
If you want to add something smaller that also ships across the country, the Palacio de los Olivos Picual olive oil gift case ($69.95) and a box of Alemany Jijona turrón ($24.95) are classic company for a ham.
How do you send it so it arrives right?
- Shipping: we ship from Florida to the 48 contiguous states. A whole cured ham needs no refrigeration in transit or at home until it is cut. Ground transit takes about 2 to 6 business days depending on the state.
- Signature: orders of $500 or more ship with adult signature required. Send it to an address where someone will be in, such as their office.
- Message: write your gift message at checkout and we print it on a card inside the box.
- If something goes wrong: if the box arrives damaged or with the wrong item, tell us within 24 hours of delivery, with photos, and we make it right.
- Paying: you can pay in 4 interest-free installments with Klarna or Afterpay at checkout.
Once it arrives, our guide on how to store a ham once opened keeps it at its best to the last slice.

Frequently asked questions
What do you get someone who has everything?
Something they would not buy for themselves, that they can share, and that lasts beyond the day they open it. A whole Spanish ham ticks all three: few people own one, it turns dinners into gatherings, and it is carved for weeks.
Is a whole ham a good gift for a foodie?
Yes. It is a top ingredient, a carving skill to learn and a centerpiece for the table. Foodies tend to know Ibérico from restaurants but have rarely had a whole leg at home.
How long does a whole Ibérico ham last?
Uncut, it keeps in a cool, dry, dark place without refrigeration. Once started, cover the cut face with baking paper and a clean cotton cloth, and plan to finish it within 3 to 6 weeks.
Do they need a ham stand and a knife?
Yes. A stable stand and a long, flexible knife are what make thin, even slices possible. The Grand Box and the Christmas boxes include both; with a ham bought on its own, add them to the order.
Can I send it as a surprise?
Yes. Enter their address as the shipping address and your message at checkout. Remember that orders of $500 or more need an adult to sign for them, so choose an address where someone will be in.
